Behind our masks, we are smiling from ear to ear as we open our doors and welcome families back. If you've previously been to our museum, your visit this time will seem a bit different that you are used to, but it will remain just as fun as before!
What to Expect
1. Plan for it.
Advance reservations required. Timed entry tickets for 2-hour visit will help us regulate capacity and ensure a quality visit for your family. Choose from two timed sessions: 10:00 am - 12:00 pm or 1:00 - 3:00 pm Tuesdays-Sundays. This will also allow us to have time to clean and sanitize in between timed visits. Schedule your visit now! Reservations can also be made by calling 815-963-6769. If you have a Discovery Center coupon, gift certificate or reciprocal membership, please call to make reservations. Members must make online or phone reservations as well.
2. Staying safe and healthy together.
Before you enter the museum, we will check your temperature, have you answer several health screening questions, and provide sanitize for your use. Then you can scan your online reservation at the admission desk. It’s all contactless! Plus, remember to rock the mask! Grownups, children ages 6+, and Museum staff must wear masks that cover the nose and mouth to enter the Museum (when medically able). Caregivers visiting with children who have medical conditions, ASD and similar processing differences are encouraged to let our staff know. We strongly encourage tots ages 5 and younger to wear face coverings as well, though they are not required. Face coverings are not required in our outdoor park when social distancing can be maintained. Our staff are also required to wear masks, and undergo temperature checks and health screenings. Social distancing is a team effort. One of our friendly Discovery Guides will welcome and accompany you in a group (consisting of approximately 6 people) during your visit to aid with social distancing and ensure your children have the opportunity for safe and joyful play.
3. Increased cleaning.
Our robust cleaning practices have gotten even more stringent! We have meticulously planned and implemented cleaning and safety procedures throughout our museum that protect the health and well-being of our guests and staff. We’re adhering to guidelines from our local health department, the CDC, and the Association of Children's Museums to ensure we are following the highest standards. You’ll see our staff cleaning with disinfectant throughout your visit and deeper cleaning will occur between each shift of guests and at the end of the day. Staff will disinfect surfaces, exhibits and “high touch” areas, like door handles and elevator buttons. Loose toys and manipulatives, such as play food and balls, will be rotated out with new sanitized sets for each timed visit.
4. What we ask of you.
We are committed to providing CLEAN, SAFE, PLAYFUL LEARNING at Discovery Center, but we need your help. Please follow this simple Guest Code of Conduct:
o Plan a different visit day if anyone in your family or group is not feeling well.
o Maintain proper social distancing from others not in your family or group.
o Wear a face covering.
o Wash hands or use sanitizer often.
o Have all members of your family/group play in the same area.
5. Daily virtual learning continues.
We look forward to welcoming you when you feel comfortable returning to the museum. In the meantime, keep connecting and learning with our online Playful Learning at Home series of free at-home science activities, storytimes, art projects and the adventures of Captain Discovery Center! These online resources can be found on our Playful Learning at Home webpage, as well as on Facebook, Twitter, and our YouTube Channel.
