COVID-19 Closure

March 14, 2020

Dear Members and Friends of the Museum,

In the interest of our community and each other, Discovery Center Museum will temporarily close to the public as of 5:00 pm, March 14.

While we know of no confirmed cases of COVID-19 (coronavirus) among museum staff or guests, the museum is closing in accordance with public health recommendations as well as Gov. Pritzker’s decision to close all schools in the state in an effort to keep people safe. As a community resource, we feel it is our obligation to do our part to help minimize the spread of the virus and its impact on our community.

All March events at the museum will be rescheduled or postponed. Museum leadership will continue to monitor the quickly evolving COVID-19 situation and recommendations from health authorities to decide when the museum can safely reopen. Further, we will use this time to expand already extensive cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting procedures. These steps will ensure that families can return here knowing our priority is that everyone has a playful, joyful, and healthy hands-on, interactive experience at Discovery Center Museum.

We will provide updates and information regarding reopening on our website, e-blasts, and social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram). Our education staff will also provide STEM-based interactive activities and information for all of you caring for young children through what might feel like long, trying days. So check our website and social media channels often!

We look forward to seeing everyone back at Discovery Center soon. Until then…. keep washing your hands!
