Discovery Center Museum is committed to making its building and programs accessible to visitors with special needs. We adhere to the Smithsonian Institute's guidelines for accessibility, and offer handicapped ramps, handicapped accessible restrooms, an elevator, and ample room around each exhibit. Our classes can also accommodate children (and their parents) with special needs.
Wheelchairs are available at Discovery Center. To ensure availability, please call in advance of your arrival.
The Illinois Autism Visual Guide Project
The Discovery Center Visual Guide is available for your next visit to Discovery Center. The guide utilizes PECS (The Picture Exchange Communication System) and is for anyone with special communication needs. It will help your children focus on the exhibits in the Museum through special visual cues and was a project of the Illinois Autism/PDD Training & Technical Assistance Project. The guide is available at the admission desk.
