Overnights

Camp-Ins

Spend the night at Discovery Center! Select from our scheduled dates and themes for Girl Scouts 2016-17 or invent your own overnight adventure with a Private Camp-In (call 815-972-2843 to schedule your private overnight). We may combine your group with another to meet minimum numbers. Advance registration and advance payment are required.

Registration closes one week prior to event.

For scheduled events, $45 non-refundable deposit due at registration. Deposit counts toward full amount. Only approximate number of participants required at registration.

Fees: $30 per child / $15 per adult. Fee includes all activity materials, evening snack, morning breakfast; scouts receive Discovery Center Museum patch.  Scout awards not included. If you think you may be eligible for a scholarship, contact Meghan Richards at meghanr@discoverycentermuseum.org or call 815-972-2843. Scholarships are based on a child’s eligibility for a school’s free or reduced lunch program.

Cancellation Policy: Refunds are available up to one week prior to event, minus deposit. Discovery Center reserves the right to cancel events; in which case, a full refund will be issued.

Spooky Science: Friday, October 14, 2016

Br/Jr/Ca - 6:30p-9:00a 

Model moon phases; construct a star map, craft glowing constellations; learn about light pollution; and take a guided tour through the night sky in our planetarium. Weather permitting, use telescopes to scope out the night.

 

Mystery Crime Lab: Saturday, November 5; Friday, March 3; Saturday, April 22

Br/Jr/Ca - 6:30p-9:00a 

Put on your detective hat and use forensic science to solve this case! Examine fingerprints, take apart ink, crack a code, measure footprints, and more.  

Brownies work toward Home Scientist Badge; Juniors work toward Detective Badge; Cadettes work toward Special Agent Badge.

 

Natural Disasters: Friday, January 27, 2017

Make a miniature volcano, capture a cloud, bottle a tornado, experience the hair-raising effects of lightning, boost your disaster preparedness, and witness an explosive demo!

Measure, pour, and mix your way into the scientific method as you experiment with chemical reactions. Play with polymers, cause color changes, and more!

Have you ever wondered (but been too scared to test) what happens when you eat PopRocks and Coke? What would happen if you dropped a penny from a skyscraper? Use science to test out myths and decide: are they plausible or BUSTED?

Girls’ Night: Saturday, May 20, 2017

Ca/Sr - 5:30p-9:00a - $32 scout/$15 adult

Hang out with your friends at Discovery Center!  Play in the museum, explore the park in the dark, take in the night sky in our planetarium, use a telescope (weather permitting), cook up a rainbow dinner from scratch and create your own breakfast treat!
