Summer Discovery 2010
The Discovery Center Museum will be offering fun-filled science camps for all budding scientists! Camps are open to students ages 7 and up and are offered in half day or full day sessions.If you are entering Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 in Fall 2010 also see Summer Sleuths below.
July 12-16 session 1: Rockets
Design, construct, and launch model rockets! We’ll start from scratch and complete rockets you can take home!July 12-16 session 2: Astronomy
Explore the moon, planets and stars in this “out of this world” camp. Explore the night sky, make your own constellation finder and take in some astronaut training. Finish the week by designing and constructing a community that could support human life somewhere in space!July 19-23 session 1: Girls Science 1
Girls, come explore all different types of science in this class just for you! Extract DNA from a banana, make slime from glue, dissect a cow’s eye and more! Plus, see exciting Discovery Center science demos and learn how you can “go green”!July 19-23 session 2: Girls Science 2
Another session just for girls, but with all new material! In this class you will build a model of a lung, grow your own crystals, make a barometer and more! Additional science demonstrations will be provided and you will also get to make your own flashlight!July 26-30 session 1: Forensics 1
Are you interested in crime solving? This class will explore the science of forensic investigation of a wide variety of evidence. Make a forensics tool kit, learn how to tell tire tracks apart, use a microscope to investigate different fibers and process a ‘crime scene’ at the museum!July 26-30 session 2: Forensics 2
There is enough forensics for a full day! All new topics will be explored in the afternoon (morning class not required). Learn about handwriting analysis, shoe prints, finger prints and more. Solve a mock ‘crime’ at the museum to test your investigative skills!Camp schedule:

All summer camp sessions are taught by qualified Discovery Center Educators. Full-day campers must bring their own lunch. It is also recommended that you send your camper with a snack each day. Campers will be provided time to explore the Discovery Center Museum, including our new expanded spaces!
Summer Sleuths
Be on a team that searches for a solution to a real-world environmental problem! Investigate information from experts, experiments, and the Internet with help from IMSA students and guidance from local teachers. Accept this year’s challenge to help shape the future.Students Entering Grades 6, 7, 8 or 9 in Fall 2010
