Enjoy the tastes, sounds and feel of the tropics at Discovery Center's "Sizzling Sunday" event January 27

ROCKFORD, Ill. – Dig out that beach attire and get carried away to the Caribbean as Discovery Center Museum gets tropical on Sunday, January 27 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Activities will abound as visitors take in the flora, fauna, geography, music and culture of these paradise islands. Live steel pan music performances at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. will put you in a tropical mood! Steel pan musician Abe Breiling will also answer questions and give demonstrations between performances. Design a boat and float it in our giant water play area. Meet some fine feathered friends from Ollie’s Parrot Perch, a parrot rescue organization, and make a pretend parrot pal of your own. Immerse yourself in a lava pit. A giant interactive floor map of the Caribbean lets you “Island Hop” and get into geography. Play dominoes and other authentic games. Sample food and get your hands on some tropical fruit. Rockford Art Museum will be on hand to help you experiment with bubble art.

Cost of the event is included with admission to Discovery Center - $6 for adults, $5 for children ages 2-17 and free to children under the age of 2 as well as to members of Discovery Center Museum and the Rockford Art Museum. The event is sponsored in part by the Illinois Arts Council.
